McCain, it’s probably time to pack your bags

October 21st cartogram
I think the writing is pretty much on the wall, with Obama sporting a 2/3 majority of the electoral votes and a double-digit lead in the popular vote. And for McCain, it also has to hurt, having such notable figures like Colin Powell and Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke endorsing Barack’s campaign, financial strategies, and general campaign conduct. Say what you like about McCain being a “maverick” or a “straight shooter” — his relentlessly negative attacks, poor judgment in running mate selection, and a questionable record, have only contributed to his demise in my opinion.

I think the best thing that McCain can do right now for his record and for his base is stop with all the mud slinging and dirty politics — toting accusations that Obama is “palling around” with a “domestic terrorist”, questioning his patriotism and love for America, and generally trying to slaughter his character as an American citizen and elected official.

I know that Obama’s campaign has released its own share of distortions and fact-twisting ads in regards to their own respective mud slinging. But when you compare apples to apples, Obama’s rotten apple throwing has amounted to a few buckets while McCain has pretty much thrown the entire orchard in the form of attack ads. With the ads that I’ve seen during prime time here in Minnesota, McCain’s ads are generally more negative and divisive than what I’ve seen from Obama’s camp.

Anyway, I’m glad November 4th is nearly here so we can get back to our regularly scheduled lives. This election has been FAR too divisive, polarizing Americans and bringing out the ugly at political rallies. I mean, come on… Obama’s not a terrorist, he loves his country, and he clearly cares for and understands the needs of ordinary, average American citizens like you and I.

This political mess and the trouble with biases

Watching the Vice Presidential debate last night was certainly entertaining and enlightening, offering some more clarity behind the supporting evidence for my vote come this November. I’ll be frank, I do have an inherent bias towards Obama, but for several reasons:

A lebanese evening

This evenng I worked the beverage tent at my church’s fall festival. It was fun, but I’m tired from standing all evening on asphalt in dress shoes. I have to be honest that I do feel detached from all of the festivities, the distinctly middle-eastern ethnicities and hooplah, the Arabic music, the hookahs and gyros.

Being a convert into a distinctly ethnic environment has its challenges, particularly fitting in with those that are not like you… Your only commonality being Christ crucified and the Orthodox faith. If I’m honest, I do sometimes feel out of place. But it’s still home.

Anyway, if you’re in the area over the weekend, come out to the Saint George festival - saintgeorge-church.org for more info. It’s still good fun.

Seven Weeks, Four Days

Today we had our second ultrasound — a requested follow-up from Natalie’s doctor — and got to see the baby again. This time we were able to see baby’s little heart thumping away at 166 bpm and could see little definitions like baby’s head, eyes, and the umbilical cord.

It’s starting to become more and more real — at least from my perspective as a father-to-be — seeing the heartbeat, little beady black eyes, the brain developing and bearing some combination of our DNA. It’s quite remarkable. I know for Natalie it’s all-too-real, with the nausea being as bad as it is right now. Hopefully it’ll pass soon.

We also were given a slightly altered due date of April 3 and not April 1 based upon the latest measurements of baby with the ultrasound that we had. It’s pretty exciting though, having a spring baby in time for Pascha and all the festivities surrounding that. It’s going to be quite the special time indeed!

I’m voting republican…

And of course it’s satirical, but there’s an underlying tone of truth to it given the past eight years and how we’ve “progressed” as a nation.

Well, my blog’s back up and running again. Sorry for the ‘inconvenience’ — if there ever was one. :P

Beyond tranquility and mystique to my roots (part two)

If you survived my previous lengthy post about some of my music history, then you should have the fortitude to withstand this one — but then again, I’ve only just begun to type and have no clue as to its length. But take heart, I’m already half-way through my life’s history as it pertains to music. :)

My e-mail was read on the Dave Ramsey show

Last Thursday I was watching “The Office” and the lead character Michael walks into his office and yells out “I.. Declare…. BANKRUPTCY!” One of his subordinates pulls him aside and says, “Michael, you can’t just say ‘I declare bankruptcy’ and suddenly you’re bankrupt.”

Of course I had a moment when I thought, “ya know, Michael needs Dave Ramsey”…and then I thought… wait, how did Dave Ramsey make his way into my mindscape during TV time. So I had to tell Dave Ramsey that.

and my e-mail was read on the air

Funny.

Installing IKEA laminate flooring (part two)

[continuation from part one]

I didn’t get nearly as far as I wanted to on Friday—pretty much finishing up through the kitchen and coming to a halt where it met up with our dining room.
